How to Set Up Reporting Parameters
The goal of this tutorial is to show how to set up Reporting parameters. These parameters should be set up right after installation in order to make both Docentric SSRS and Basic reports work.
Navigate to Company/System administration/Area page and under the Setup section you will see the Docentric AX menu. The Document management submenu refers to Docentric Document Libraries and the Reporting submenu refers to management of both Docentric SSRS and Basic reports.
In order to set Reporting parameters click the Reporting -> Reporting parameters menu item. In the setup form we will first set up the default storage for report templates data sources.
Default template storage
Report templates can be stored on SharePoint or file system (shared folders/network drives). Ensure that AOS user account has READ permission to the selected locations.
You can also download step-by-step manual on how to set up shared folder as a Docentric AX report template storage:
How to set up shared folder for Docentric template storage
Default report DS storage
Default report data source storage is the default location selected to store report data sources (Docentric Data Source Packages – DDSP files) when they are generated. It is not required to keep DDSP files along report templates but it is recommended to have a dedicated folder where they are generated to.
SharePoint authentication
We can configure the authentication for READ access to SharePoint sites for an AOS account in case that report templates are stored on SharePoint.
By clicking the Network credentials button we can enter the username and password that are going to be used by AOS to fetch a report template stored on SharePoint Document Library.
By clicking the Test AOS read access button you can test AOS access to SharePoint site home page using defined network credentials.
Email sending settings
With Docentric AX version 2.0 Email sending settings are introduced.
Send emails always via AOS
You can choose to send emails always via AOS instead of using the selected email client for the client side (the Email client used by AX client field). With this option turned on, emails are always sent via AOS using SMTP client and AOS email account settings, even when a report executes on AX client (i.e. it does not run in batch). If this option is turned off, and this is the case by default, the selected email client will be used to send emails on AX client. You can change this option per particular report in the report setup.
AOS email account display name
When emails are sent via AOS, use this field as a sender display name (e.g. 'Contoso Services'). Emails are sent via AOS when reports run in batch, or when reports run on AX client but the Send emails always via AOS option is turned on. You can change this option per particular report in the report setup (e.g. for sending purchase orders you can use 'Contoso Procurement Department').
Email client used by AX client
Select which email client is used by AX client to send emails, if the Send emails always via AOS option is turned off. If SMTP client is selected, the default credentials of the current user are used. To select and use MS Outlook application as Email client used by AX client, MS Outlook desktop application has to be installed. You can change this option per particular report in the report setup.
SMTP client settings
When SMTP client is used for sending emails, you can change some of its settings such as Enable SSL, SMTP client timeout, etc. on this form.

Printing settings
With Docentric AX version 2.0 Printing settings are introduced.
Printing mode
Select whether printing reports is performed on Docentric server or AX (AX client or AOS when printing in batch). Docentric Server is selected as Printing mode by default, because it is implemented as truly reliable server side printing and also it is more powerful. For example, you can use page ranges or different input trays when printing reports.
You should use AX as Printing mode mainly in testing purposes (when Docentric Server in the cloud is used), or as a fallback option.
Print archive
In the Print Archive tab page you can select the file format for files saved in Company/Organization administration/Inquiries -> Print archive.
Report viewer
Preview of a Docentric Basic or SSSR report is performed by the selected viewer.
SRS reports
For an active Docentric SRS report the built-in SSRS print destinations and the original report template, i.e. Report Design can be used along Docentric print destinations and the corresponding Docentric report templates by turning on the SRS print destinations can be used along Docentric print destinations option. Read more here >>
You can also use Docentric Screen print destination instead of SRS Screen print destination for both Print Management and Non Print Management reports.
For Print Management reports use Docentric Preview
It is important that the For Print Management reports use Docentric Preview option is turned on when we want to reuse the built-in Original preview and Copy preview buttons for Print Management reports without modifying built-in report artifacts. But if we want to print the original design of a Print Management report that is an active Docentric report using the built-in Original preview and Copy preview buttons, then we need to turned off this option and use it in combination with the SRS print destinations can be used along Docentric print destinations option turned on.
For Non Print Management reports use Docentric Preview
It is important that the For Non Print Management reports use Docentric Preview option is turned on because of those SSRS reports that are executed without opening the built-in report dialog form for selecting the target print destination. One such report is Printing product labels in Retail module. And if we want to preview the original design of such report that is an active Docentric report using the built-in buttons, then we need to turned off this option and use it in combination with the SRS print destinations can be used along Docentric print destinations option turned on. These two options are turned on by default, and they are also useful in combination with the Generate DDSP when report runs option from Docentric report setup. This option is set per report and determines if the report data source should be generated each time when report is executed to to any of print destinations. This way we can reuse the built-in buttons for those reports printed directly to Screen (and without opening the report dialog form) to print their data sources at the same time. We need report data sources to design Docentric templates. See how this works on an example >>
Exceptions log
On the Exception log tab page you can set the flag indicating whether document generation errors should be written to the Exceptions log and whether the errors that occur when a report is printed to a print destination should be persisted to Exceptions log as well. Document generation errors can occur during rendering documents, e.g. when a template contains invalid data bindings to the data source.
How to read Docentric reporting errors from the Exceptions log
In case that you have these options turned on, navigate to Company/System administration/Periodic/Services and Application Integration Framework and click the Exceptions menu item. Filter the grid on the Exceptions form by Docentric Reporting in the Module column.
By clicking the General tab on the Exceptions form we can see the error details.
