PDF/A Compliance
The PDF/A standard defines specific requirements and constraints on the PDF file format to ensure that PDF/A-compliant documents are self-contained, device-independent and suitable for long-term archiving. These requirements include guidelines for fonts, color, metadata, transparency and other aspects of PDF document creation and storage. For example, font linking (as opposed to font embedding) and encryption are not allowed.
